AFRICALICS

AfricaLics, the African Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation, and Competence Building Systems, is the African regional chapter of Globelics and one of the strongest examples of how the Globelics community has grown through regional engagement. Established in 2012, AfricaLics promotes high-quality research, capacity building, policy dialogue, and collaboration on innovation and development across the African continent. The network brings together scholars, students, policymakers, and institutions working on innovation systems, technological capabilities, learning, inclusive development, and sustainable transformation in African contexts.

AfricaLics plays a key role in strengthening research capacities and supporting new generations of innovation and development scholars in Africa. Through conferences, academies, thematic activities, publications, and policy-oriented initiatives, the network connects African experiences with global debates while ensuring that African development challenges, knowledge systems, and policy priorities remain central. Its governance structure includes a Secretariat, currently hosted by the African Centre for Technology Studies in Nairobi, Kenya, and the AfricaLics Scientific Board, which guides the network’s strategic direction and seeks to ensure regional and gender balance across the continent. AfricaLics also supports the emergence of national communities, including initiatives such as NigeriaLics and EthiopiaLics.
