The 4th Pavia Winter School in Geography of Innovation will take place from January 11–15, 2027, in Pavia, Italy, offering an intensive training programme for doctoral students and junior researchers interested in the spatial dimensions of innovation. Participants will have the opportunity to present their ongoing research, receive feedback from internationally recognised scholars and engage with recent theoretical and methodological developments in the field.
The 2027 edition will feature 11 speakers from universities and European Union research centres, including the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Seville. Lectures will address key topics such as technological diversification, regional innovation policy, network science, economic complexity, green innovation and patent data.
A strong methodological component will complement the academic sessions. Two data-lab sessions will introduce participants to methods using R and Python for the analysis of economic complexity and regional diversification, as well as techniques for network analysis using R. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss publication strategies with scholars involved in the editorial boards of leading international journals, including Research Policy, Industry and Innovation, Economic Geography, Science and Public Policy, Regional Studies and the Journal of International Business Policy.
The Winter School is organised by Stefano Breschi and Nicoletta Corrocher from ICRIOS, Bocconi University, together with Andrea Morrison and Roberta Rabellotti from the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Pavia. The programme will admit a limited number of participants, and the attendance fee is €350, including lunches and coffee breaks.
The Winter School provides an opportunity for emerging researchers to strengthen their analytical skills, develop their research projects and engage with an international community working on innovation, economic geography and regional development.
